The Team behind The Lament of the Black Sheep

It takes quite a few people to make a solo folk album, so here's the whole team behind The Lament of the Black Sheep.

Ange Hardy

Ange Hardy is a folk singer, songwriter and guitarist from West Somerset. In January 2014 she was awarded FATEA Magazine's prestigious “Female Vocalist of the Year” following the release of her 2013 album “Bare Foot Folk”.

This is Ange's third studio album. She's written, arranged and produced all 15 tracks. Her vocals, story telling and guitar work are at the heart of every song on the album. She's also playing percussion on a number of tracks.

James Findlay

The multi-award winning and ludicrously talented James Findlay will be providing exceptional fiddle playing for the album, as well as contributing the warm tones of his distinctive and traditional style of singing. James Findlay won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2010, his album 'Sport and Play' was in MOJO's list of top ten folk albums of 2012 and 'Another Day Another Story' was nominated for 'Best Folk Album 2013' in the Spiral Earth Awards.

Lukas Drinkwater

The truly delightful Lukas Drinkwater will be playing double bass and providing backing vocals on the album. Few multi-instrumentalists work as hard as Lukas. He's an accomplished solo-artist in his own right, he's one-third of the band '3 Daft Monkeys’, and on top of that he’s currently touring in a duo with folk legend Jim Causley. You may have recently heard Lukas performing live on Mark Radcliffe's BBC Radio 2 Folk Show.

Alex Cumming

Alex Cumming will be bringing the traditional delights of his accordion to the album. Alex is a highly accomplished musician, caller and workshop leader. As such he's a fountain of knowledge for all things folky. Alex is a member of The Teacups as well as Dyer:Cumming's and regularly performs both live and in recordings alongside James Findlay. On top of all of that Alex still finds time to present the “Folk & Acoustic Show” on NSRLive.

Jon Dyer

Bright eyed Jon Dyer is going to be lending his flute and whistle expertise to the album, you may previously have seen Jon running workshops at numerous folk festivals, and is a member of Dyer:Cumming's, Gadarene, The Klezbians, and Jon & Alfie. Jon Dyer's been in choirs, bands, orchestras, and morris dancing teams... and soon, he'll be on an Ange Hardy album too. It's all very exciting!

Jo May

Jo May will be bringing her exceptional knowledge of rhythm and percussion into the studio for the album. Jo trained at the Royal College of Music before working with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She has since studied West African drumming and balafon, and Afro-Cuban percussion. Jo is an experienced and active percussion teacher and workshop leader. She also performs regularly in a duo with flamenco guitarist, Matt Sullivan, as "Against the Grain".

Rob Swan (Story Records)

Rob Swan is a director of Story Records and co-producer on this album. He's responsible for the websites, writing press releases, preparing publicity material, album artwork and branding, recording and mixing pre-studio demos and engineering and mixing Ange's sound for live performances.

He also makes endless cups of coffee, and gets in trouble for constantly reminding Ange about budgets and target audiences.

Sam John - Precise Mastering

Sam John set up Precise Mastering in 2005, with the sole aim to provide the very best quality and service. He's achieved that goal admirably, and was responsible for mastering the CD.

Olly Winters-Owen (Beehive Studio)

Olly has been involved in the music industry for more than thirty five years, he runs a very successful recording studio on the Somerset Levels, producing music for radio, TV and film as well as working with a number of major artists. Olly is recording, mixing and mastering the album. This is the third studio album that Ange Hardy is recording at Beehive Studio with Olly behind the mixing desk.
